I was recently invited to the preview of Crispy's Curse by local director John Williams. It's his third full length movie, and I was lucky enough to watch it before it goes out to film festivals.
The venue was the legendary Leopard Hotel, in Burslem Stoke-on-Trent, which is famous for being one of the most haunted pubs in the UK. Here's some useless trivia for you: It's also where my band filmed our latest music video too (click here to check it out ), so it was an ideal venue for me to enjoy a new Horror movie.

The story is about a supernatural clown called Crispy who has come back from the dead, and has embarked on a bloody rampage. The only people who can stop him, or believe they can anyway, are a Christian Heavy Metal band called Messiah Fist, and some spiritual mediums, including the world famous Alon Baptiste, played by the superb Darren McAree.
Crispy's Curse is very funny. It's a Horror Comedy, and is similar in tone to Shaun of the Dead and Bad Taste. The dialogue is excellent, with plenty of wit and quotable lines. The actors are all very good, which for a movie like this, is hugely beneficial.
Along with the laughter, there are plenty of gory and grim moments, many of which are wonderfully ludicrous, giving the film added character. I'd love to go into more detail, but I don't want to give away any spoilers. I will say however, that I still can't face eating rice pudding!
Crispy's Curse was very nicely shot and well edited, and far surpasses the quality of many films shot on a similar micro-budget. Most importantly, it is thoroughly entertaining throughout, and has the potential to become a cult classic. Stranger things have happened, and it would be well deserved.
