Do you like Heavy Metal, in particular, the kind that has a splash of Power Metal in it's DNA? Do you say "Fuck yeah" when people talk about bands like Hammerfall, Manowar, and Virgin Steele? If you have answered 'Yes' to those questions, then Hammer King is for you. Fortunately, it's for me too.

I've never paid much attention to Hammer King before, and I feel a little foolish about that having listened to this new album. This is excellent Heavy Metal. It's melodic, powerful, has a good splash of the 80's, and most importantly is packed with instantly enjoyable songs.

Opener Awaken The Thunder has a super-catchy chorus and reminds me of Hammerfall, but has enough of it's own character to be its own deadly beast. It's probably my favourite song on the album, but there are plenty of tracks coming in very close behind it.

In The Name Of The Hammer is another track that stood out for me, a face paced sing-along with a memorable chorus.

The album all very over-the top and embraces epic story-telling of medieval battles, kings, kings with hammers, kingdoms etc. Admittedly, there are countless bands that are doing this kind of thing, and most of them seem to be from Germany. However, like the bands I mentioned before, Hammer King are particularly good at it.
