EP Review: OBSCURE FATE - Raven's Call

01. Black Moon
02. Ancient Evil
03. Lucid Dream
04. Raven's Call

Finland's Obscure Fate started out back in 2008 as a solo project by guitarist/songwriter Kaleva Kovalainen. Now a five-piece band, they're about to release this EP, and possibly make a dent in the world of global Metal.

If, like me, you love bands like Soilwork and In Flames, Obscure Fate is a band you need to check out. What they do could certainly be described as Melodic Death Metal, but there is a bit more melody that what you may get from other bands that fit that description, sometimes veering into Gothic Metal territory, like the final three Sentenced albums. For me, that's a good thing. There's some catchy song writing on display here which will put them head and shoulders above many of their underground peers.

Admittedly, they're a little rough around the edges, but there's so much talent here, it doesn't matter. I think that with some minor refinement, they could be major players on an international scale. All four songs are great. Do yourself a favour and watch their Black Moon video, and I think you may agree that they're damn good.
