I feel sorry for Sepultura. They released one of their best albums ever, Quadra (click for review), then the pandemic shut live music down so they couldn't tour it. The band did some weekly live collaborations over the internet during quarantine with some of Metal's favourite stars on YouTube, and now those recordings have been remixed and remastered to make this album.

This record features new versions of plenty of old classics, but the omission of tracks like Arise, Refuse/Resist, and Roots Bloody Roots makes quite a statement. Many fans are stuck in the past with this band and that's a real shame. Since Derrick Green took over the role as lead vocalist, Sepultura have released some incredible material, and this album is awesome without those aforementioned tracks.

SepulQuarta sounds great and the live attack adds a fresh savagery to these songs. There are no duffers here, but the stand-outs for me are probably Ratamahatta, Phantom Self, and Mask. The latter features Devin Townsend who absolutely brought his A-game to the project.

Overall, this is a solid release and a far more interesting one than a regular live album or a re-recorded greatest hits. The special guests all add something different and cool, making this essential and engaging listening for any Sepultura fan.
