MY TOP HARD ROCK/METAL/GOTH/PUNK/ALT ALBUMS OF 2024

Another year has gone by where I've neglected my blog. In my defence, I've been super busy with my band Lesbian Bed Death (our new album, Midnight Lust, should be in your top albums of 2024). I've also been working on my debut Horror film, Satan's Cellar. Keep an eye out for it in 2025.

As always, I've been listening to lots of new music and discovering new bands. I enjoy putting these 'end of year' lists together to remind myself of all the great albums released this year. I've limited it to my favourite 40, and have banned live albums, re-issues, re-recordings, EP's etc.

Here it is. Enjoy, and keep discovering new music:

Album Review: FRIGHT NIGHT - Some Are Born To Endless Night

Fright Night - Some Are Born To Endless Night

01 Near Dark
02 Each Evil Needs A Home
03 Let The Right One In
04 Halloween 78
05 Major Arcana
06 The Reaper's Bride
07 Night Of The Vampire (Roky Erickson cover)
08 Blood On My Blade
09 Some Are Born To Endless Night

It feels like forever since I've done an album review, but I'm pleased to dust off the cobwebs by talking about the debut album from Poland's Fright Night

I enjoyed their debut release, The Maddest Stories Ever Told (Review here), so was excited to check this new one out.

For those unfamiliar with Fright Night, think Gothic Rock like The 69 Eyes and The Awakening, Horror movies, vampires etc. If that sounds like your thing, you'll love this band.

Every song is well crafted and is a masterclass in this genre. I particularly like the creepy Let The Right One In (named after one of my favourite movies) and the upbeat Each Evil Needs A Home.

Blood On My Blade is a fast slice of catchy Horrorpunk worthy of The Misfits or Blitzkid, and provides a refreshing injection of high octane energy.

The menacing cover of Night Of The Vampire was also a pleasant surprise, and a wonderful tribute to the genius of the late great Roky Erickson.

Overall, this is a great Gothic Rock album and essential listening for fans of the genre.
