Finland's The 69 Eyes are easily one of my favourite bands of all time. I got into them around the time they released their Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams album and witnessed them morph from a Glam band into possibly the best Gothic Rock band of all time. Don't believe me? Pick up Paris Kills and Devils, and if you're not won over, see a doctor.

West End, as the title suggests, has an air of 'the end of the world' about it. Musically, it doesn't stray too far from the path carved by the last few records. There are some special guests on here who add some fresh flavour. Opener Two Horns Up is an upbeat rocker featuring some additional vocals from Cradle Of Filth's Dani Filth. The marriage of these different vocal styles works really well, making it one of the record's highlights.

It's business as usual with the melancholy 27 & Done which reflects on the musical legends who all died at age 27. It's classic 69 Eyes and would sit nicely on any of their earlier releases. The same can be said for a few of the songs, particularly the superb Black Orchid and the riff-tastic Cheyenna.

Other highlights for me include the epic outro song Hell Has No Mercy which has an air of Danzig about it. Outsiders is an infectious, upbeat rocker, but the medal for Heavy Metal riffage has to go to The Last House On The Left which features guest appearances from Dani Filth, Wednesday 13, and Calico Cooper (check out my review of Calico's band Beasto Blanco's latest record here). It's a great tune and the guests bring an abundance of character to this Halloween masterpiece.

West End is another solid release and is probably their best album since 2009's Back In Blood.
